Chemistry Atomic Structure with Mass Number Pixel Art in a Self-Checking Google Sheet
Are you looking for an engaging way for students to practice determining the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom? This Atomic Structure Pixel Art includes 20 PNE problems for neutral atoms. Students are provided with two pieces of information, such as the atomic number and the mass number, and asked to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The 20 PNE problems contain a mix of provided information, so students can interpret the provided information to determine the missing pieces. As students enter the correct number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in the atom, colors will appear on the right side of the sheet. Once all problems are answered correctly, an entire image appears!
Each question has the atomic number, mass number, protons, neutrons, and electrons, with only two of those provided to the students. Using the two provided, they must figure out the other three for the atom. This sheet includes only neutral atoms.
This resource can be used for distance learning, or as guided practice after in-class instruction, or for review. Both you and your students must have a Google account and access to the internet to use this resource.
This resource includes both the student Google Sheet document and the Key.
