AP Chemistry Formal Charge Pixel Art in a Self-Checking Google Sheet
Are you looking for an engaging way for students to practice calculating formal charge? This Formal Charge Pixel Art includes 10 problems to practice:
Determining the number of valence electrons on an atom in a Lewis Structure
Determining the number of unshared electrons on an atom in a Lewis Structure
Determining the number of bonds (or 1/2 the shared electrons in the bond) in a Lewis Structure
Calculating the formal charge of an atom in a Lewis Structure
There are 10 structures provided. Students might have to draw a Lewis structure or complete a Lewis structure before they determine the formal charge. Therefore, students should be familiar with drawing Lewis Structures in order to complete this pixel art. As students enter the correct values, colors will appear on the right side of the sheet. Once all problems are answered correctly, an entire image appears!
This resource can be used for distance learning, or as guided practice after in-class instruction, or for review. Both you and your students must have a Google account and access to the internet to use this resource.
This resource includes both the student Google Sheet document and the Key.
