AP Chemistry Sigma Bonds Pi Bonds and Hybridization Write the Room Printable Activity

$2.50

Are you looking for a quick and engaging way for students to practice sigma bonds, pi bonds, and hybridization? Write the room activities are a quick, engaging way for students to practice skills. This Write the Room activity is a great way for students to gain additional practice!

This activity contains 10 letter-sized pages containing Lewis Structures and structural formulas. Students will be asked to determine how many sigma and pi bonds are in the molecule. They will also be asked to determine the hybridization, formal charge, geometry, and bond angle around an indicated atom in the molecule. The indicated atom will be in a different color than the rest of the structure.

Students are given a recording sheet to write down their answers. The 10 sheets are hung up around the room, and individuals or groups of 2 will roam around the room, interpreting the Lewis Structures.

This resource comes with 10 pages of Lewis Structures and structural formulas, along with a student recording sheet, and a key. This resource does come in color, but could be printed in black and white as well.

Since students will be asked to determine formal charge, geometry, and bond angle, students should be familiar with these concepts prior to notes and practicing of sigma and pi bonds and hybridization. They should also be familiar with condensed structural formulas that may not show all bonds (i.e. hydrogens on C atoms) or lone pairs of electrons.
